Alfa Romeo finally decided
to legitimise the Zagato connection and entered into a design
phase resulting in the Sprint Zagato (SZ) in December 1959.
Using the short wheelbase and more powerful engine of the
SS, combined with the lightwight and functionality of a Zagato
body and ideal compromise was
reached. The SZ had arrived. Over the next few years, the SZ went on to achieve
sparkling competition success for Alfa Romeo on the race track, in rallies
and hillclimbs.
